Which sales tax applies?
Goods are taxed under the federal Sales Tax Act 1990, administered by the FBR, at a standard rate of 18%. Services are taxed by the province where they are provided: the Sindh Revenue Board in Karachi charges 15% as standard, and the Punjab Revenue Authority charges 16%.
From 2026, more services moved to the standard rate
Sindh's Finance Act 2026 moved several services, including accounting, auditing and bookkeeping and most construction services, from reduced rates to the 15% standard rate. Check your service's current rate before you price a contract.
Digital invoicing
The FBR is extending mandatory digital invoicing, and businesses that fail to integrate risk suspension of their registration. As an eInvoicePro Alliance Partner, we handle the integration.
Common questions
Do I charge FBR or SRB sales tax?
Goods are taxed by the FBR. Services are taxed by the province where the service is provided, for example the SRB for services in Karachi. Some businesses need both registrations.
How do I remove sales tax from a total?
Divide the tax-inclusive amount by 1 plus the rate. For 18%, divide by 1.18. The calculator does this when you choose 'Includes tax'.
Do I need to register for sales tax?
Manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and many service providers must register, subject to thresholds and conditions. We can confirm your position and register you.
